Strong Winds Advisory

Severe storms are expected to bring strong winds to our area this evening. Winds could exceed 80 mph, with the most significant period being between 9 PM tonight (6/8/2025) and 1 AM tomorrow morning (6/9/2025).

Residents are urged to closely monitor weather updates, and sign up for local weather alerts from Kaufman County to stay informed. Prepare for tonight’s storms with the following recommendations:

Before the Storm

  • Trim Trees and Loose Branches

  • Secure Outdoor Furniture and Equipment: Secure items such as trash cans, patio tables, sports equipment, and trampolines.

  • Vehicle Safety: Park vehicles away from trees, in a garage or under sturdy shelter if possible. 

  • Generator: If you have a generator, test it to ensure it's working correctly and have fuel available.

  • Emergency Kit: Prepare or replenish your emergency kit with essentials like water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, a first-aid kit, and medications.

  • Charge Devices: Fully charge phones, laptops, and any other essential electronic devices.

During the Storm

  • Stay Informed: Monitor local weather updates.

  • Have A Shelter Plan: The safest part of your home for a shelter is the lowest interior room with the least amount of windows.

After the Storm

  • Avoid Downed Power Lines: Stay far away from downed power lines and report them to the utility company.
  • Be Cautious: Exercise caution when walking around debris or damaged areas.
